Good news: I've finished my latest thriller, HAVANA QUEEN. Bad news: I must now deal with the Federal bureaucracy in getting the book security reviewed and cleared. Just got this from the State Dept:
"Text is presumed to be, and handled as classified until cleared. Do not share uncleared text with potential publishers, or anyone else without a security clearance. Even though text contains information concerning other executive branch entities or the White House, you should not contact those agencies directly for clearance.
When clearance is final, you will receive a letter, the cleared version of your manuscript showing required redactions or rewritten text as agreed upon, and our requested disclaimer clause. Any additions or substantive rewrites may require additional review."
Oy veh!

ReplyDeleteFunny you should ask. To my utter and complete astonishment, the State Dept. cleared my latest book in an unheard-of 6 weeks. And there's more -- no changes and no redactions. My previous three books took 6 months each and required my taking some things out and changing others. Well, this pleasant surprise accelerates my plans for publishing. I'm on track for release in the Feb.- March time frame. Thanks for asking.
